So apparently I'm lazy enough that i post a new blog entry every 2 months or so. Either that or i was 'too busy' with school, and didn't have very many exciting events to keep everyone up to date on. Now school is out, and i've had a week to just relax and get things done and settled a bit, i should have probably written over this past week but truth be told it never crossed my mind!
Even right now as i go to write this, my mind is elsewhere. Thinking about the photos i just took, wondering if they are any good, if anyone else will like them, if i am just wasting my time with all that and should instead be pursuing other things with my life. I don't think i'll ever get to a point where i stop taking photos... I can't honestly imagine a life where i couldn't take photos. All the time when i am walking down the street, or riding my bike into a place i've never been before I have photos going through my head. Wondering "which angle could i best shoot that tree from", or "if i came back a sunset, these clouds behind this barn would be spectacular" or even "if i set the shutter open for like o.5 second, i could catch the swaying of this tall field of grass". And then my mind also seems to operate in video a lot too. I don't know why it has started doing that, but i just imagine making videos of all these random things that would look amazing and possibly 'artistic'. I'm not going to say i'm weird for thinking it, or start psycho-analyzing myself here (hahaha), because for all i know every single person does the same thing.
But i love seeing the beauty of a single flower through my lens, as the sunlight touches its petals making them nearly transparent. Or watching a bird splash around in a birdbath in the springtime and catch the glistening morning light playing off the suspended water droplets.

School was tough. I honestly didn't fully understand how difficult it would be until i was neck deep into it all. My first year is done, and honestly i have God to thank for that. If it wasn't for His support (not to mention miracles) on my assignments and exams, i would not have passed my courses. So i am very appreciative for all that!!
So in the end i came out with a 2.72 GPA for first year. The minimum requirement for Materials Engineering is a 2.3, so i am still a ways over and above that. I'll keep my fingers crossed, because i would LOVE to get into that discipline :D!! The thought of using materials and developing new processes for working with them really intrigues me. From ceramic space shuttle tiles, to mountain bike frames, to ceramic water filtration systems that can be made in a field, to steel I-beams for construction, semi-conductors and super-conductors (materials that basically offer NO electrical resistance for increased performance), new types of body armor (ie. Dragon Skin) and many other military defense applications. The applications are pretty much endless.
So for now, my list of preferred Engineering streams is as follows...
1) Materials - Traditional (4 years of schooling, no work terms like in the Co-op program)
2) Materials - Coop
3) Petroleum - Traditional
4) Mining - Traditional
.
.
.
10) Materials Biomedical
After about the first 4 it seemed silly to keep making the list for them, so when i got to the last few i ended up throwing in some biomedical streams which usually require a 3.8+ GPA to even be looked at. Hahaha that'll show em...
Sadly i don't even hear which stream i am accepted into until possibly mid-July. So i'll just hope and pray for the best!
In other news...
My parents flew out to Ottawa last wednesday to be with Malika as Andrew was having his kidney transplant. The operation was successful, and there have been so many answers to prayer. God has been so good through all of this. Andrew and his dad are both out of the hospital already, and other than being quite sore seem to be healing up quickly! My mom is now home, and my dad will stay on for a few more weeks to help with the driving and other odd jobs. Not sure what else to say...
I got a haircut! It's shorter than i normally go for, but i really like the look. I also found jeans that fit me (shocking, i know.) and so i bought several pairs after only a few days of shopping.

So my room is nearing cleaning completion. The only major task left is really to sort my clothes for keep and good-will. I have so many clothes that either just don't fit, or i never wear anymore and so i figure i should get rid of them, and at the same time free up space in my closet! Then i have to hang these 20 x 30 black photo frames that i bought last August to put some of my photos in. I got caught up in school and never found the time to hang them up or choose photos to fill them with. So in the next few days (i want to get them hung up today if i can!) i want to decide on which photos i'll print and stick up.
Today when i got home from my morning driving around, I saw some tulips blooming and got the shutterbug itch.
I ended up taking more photos than i want to admit to, and will put more than enough of them up on here. Only because i simply can't narrow it down anymore than this hahaha. I really hope you all enjoy these. I understand that several of them look similar, but i decided that some people would see or enjoy different aspects of each, therefore i posted both.

"Waffles", my neighbor's cat, accosted me as i was shooting this morning. He came over and began purring and rubbing up against my leg, then he rolled on his back so i could rub his belly. I shooed him away after a minute and he decided to chew on my camera cables and pounce on my empty camerabag when my back was turned...

Anyways! I'm going to stop procrastinating and get this post up. I'll write again soon!!
Cheers!

I like the water droplets most, especially the close-ups. I'd say if you think of photo shoots in your spare time, you can consider it a passion therefore something worth pursuing. While not at school that is :P.
Thanks! Haha yeah, school is such a time-suck. Ah well, i'll definitely try to get some pictures in there on the side too.
